Where Can I Find a Debt Counselor?
from:Many people who find themselves overwhelmed by debt decide that they may need debt counseling. Debt counseling can be a great way to relieve financial stress and put your credit back on the right track. Finding a debt counselor, however, may be a little bit harder than some people realize.
Many years ago there were very few debt counseling organizations in business, and finding one was fairly easy. These days, debt counseling organizations are numerous, and they don’t all do business in the same way. You want to find a debt counseling organization that fits well with your needs, doesn’t charge you too much for their services, and gets you the results that you want.
Do a search on the Internet or through the phone book for debt counseling services, write down the names of the ones that you think you may be interested in, and then start doing some research. Before you call any of the companies, call the Better Business Bureau about each of them to see if there have been any problems. If you are satisfied with what the BBB has to say, then call each company and ask some questions. How much do they charge for their services? How exactly will they help you get your debt under control? If they provide you with a debt consolidation plan or debt payment plan, will they send you monthly statements to show how you are doing? Will they be able to keep your creditors from harassing you each month?
If you ask the right questions, you should be able to find the debt counseling service that will work well for you and give you the help that you need. Once you’ve chosen a debt counseling service, be sure to get everything in writing.
